GUWAHATI, June 25: The opposition leader in Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia has written a letter to Governor Gulab Chand Kataria for conducting an inquiry in an alleged boulder and stone syndicate being operated in South Salmara district and those were transported to Bangladesh.
He said that this rampant syndicate was run in the name of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and that the district committee of the party has revealed it.
Saikia mentioned, “I would like to draw your kind attention to a stark revelation made by the Asom GanaParishad (AGP), South Salmara Mankachar District Committee. As per revelation, boulder/stone syndicate is being carried out rampantly in the district in the name of AGP and transported to Bangladesh.”
“As per stated figure, Rs.4,700.00 (Rupees Four Thousand Seven Hundred) is charged per truck. Everyday more than 100 truck transports boulder/stone, thereby, collecting Rs.4,70,000.00 (Rupees Four Lakh Seventy Thousand) per day, amounting to Rs.1,41,00,000.00 (Rupees One Crore Forty One Lakh) per month,” the letter further read.
Saikia claimed that such rampant illegal activities will drastically affect the forest and environment of the area and also affect revenue collection of the state.
“As such, I would request your honour to take the matter seriously and order an enquiry into the matter, and prevent any such illegal activities,” he added.
