HAFLONG, Jan 13: Independent candidate Pronen Haflongbar has demanded a repoll in the 1-Kalachand Constituency following the discovery of 18 excess ballots at the Mupa LP School polling station.
Narrowly defeated by BJP rival Ratan Jarambusa by a single vote, Haflongbar expressed concerns about the electoral process’s integrity.
During the official vote count for the NCHAC MAC election on January 8, 2024, 615 votes were recorded. However, on January 12, 2024, during the counting process, an additional 18 ballots were discovered. Haflongbar, baffled by such discrepancies, called on the Dima Hasao district commissioner (DC) cum returning officer (RO) to conduct a repoll in the Mupa LP School polling station.
Stressing the importance of upholding the democratic process and ensuring electoral system integrity, the Independent candidate’s demand for repolling in the 1-Kalachand Constituency introduces complexity to the current political landscape, prompting questions about the transparency and fairness of the recently concluded 13 NCHAC MAC election.
