International Day of Peace celebrated in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 21: The International Day of Peace was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Chirang district, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), marking the first-ever event of its kind in the region. The day-long program took place at the RCCC auditorium hall in Dhaligaon, Bongaigaon IOC.

Organised by the Bodoland Happiness Mission, the event carried the theme of ‘Actions for Peace,’ emphasising the importance of individual and collective efforts in achieving global harmony and the pursuit of global goals.

Prominent guests at the event included Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region; Niketu Iralu, recipient of the 2023 Bhupen Hazarika Integration Award, the 2011 UN Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, and the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Award; and Prakash Mayasandra, a core team member who helped curate Disom Leadership School.

CEM Pramod Boro highlighted the initiatives of the Bodoland Happiness Mission and the dedication of the Bodoland Territorial Region government towards the welfare and upliftment of society. He emphasised the positive environment of peace and harmony in the Bodoland region following the signing of the BTR peace accord in 2020.

Boro commended the organisers for hosting the event, emphasising its role in promoting peace and unity across the Bodoland region. He noted that it was the first time the International Day of Peace was celebrated in BTR and that this year’s theme, ‘Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #Global Goals,’ underscores the significant role of individual and collective efforts in achieving global harmony.

Niketu Iralu praised the initiatives of the Bodoland Happiness Mission and expressed optimism that the event would contribute to sustainable peace and harmony among communities in the Bodoland region.

The event saw the participation of various BTR executive members, including Reoreoa Narzihary, Wilson Hasda, Dhananjay Basumatary, and Gautam Das.
