BOKAJAN, March 6: A few former militants of Karbi Anglong have been prevented from establishing a village along the Assam-Nagaland inter-state border by an irate mob.
These former cadres of various militant outfits of Karbi Anglong had reportedly tried to set up set up a village along the Assam-Nagaland border under Khatkhati Police Station in Karbi Anglong on March 4. As they were clearing the area a mob armed with machetes, rods and sharp weapons came from the side of Nagaland and engaged in a verbal spat with them.
Addressing the media at Lahorijan on Wednesday, these former militants said that they knew the land near the Nirmal Kumar Tea Estate in Lahorijan is disputed and involved Pele Kheje of Nagaland and Amphu Engtipi.
“Pele Kheje had sent in his men to stop us. We were not in any way encroaching on the property of Nirmal Kumar Tea Estate. We were only trying to set up a village on the land near the tea estate,” said a former militant.
“We reported the matter to the Khatkhatia police, but instead of providing us with security they began badmouthing us. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council should look into it before the matter went out of hand,” he further said.
The former cadres belonged to the Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT-R), KPLT (M), United Peoples Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), United Peoples Liberation Army (UPLA), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) and People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK).
