Ronghang was speaking to the media in a protest demonstration organised by KADCC with the slogan ‘Mehengai Mukta Bharat Abhijan’ against the price hike by the BJP-led government in front of Semson Sing Engti Memorial Park here on Monday.

The Congress workers took out a procession from KADCC office, went through the main thoroughfare of Diphu market to Semson Sing Engti Memorial Park. The party workers shouted anti-government slogans and asked for a reduction in the prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities.

Participating in the protest the president of KADCC and former HAD minister, Sum Ronghang criticised the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) as corrupt and is going to ruin Karbi Anglong.

He also advised the voters to take the money, if offered, during the coming Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) election to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) from the chief executive member (CEM) of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang.

The KADCC president said, “Tuliram Ronghang has misappropriated all the funds meant for development purposes. Now the KAAC election is coming and if Tuliram Ronghang gives you money you should take it as it is your money, but don’t vote for him.”

Addressing media persons chairman of Media Cell, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Monjit Mahanta said, “Why is BJP government fooling the people. If chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma can’t rule the state then he should better resign. There are many efficient and capable leaders who can rule the state.”

Mahanta said the price of all commodities including petrol, diesel and LPG has been increasing since April 1. The price of domestic LPG gas has increased to more than Rs. 1000. At today’s price per litre petrol is Rs.104. diesel has increased and likewise, the price per litre of mustard oil has shot up.

The Assembly elections in various states are over and now the government has again started to increase the prices of commodities to harass the people.

Mahanta also said that the government has not spared medicines as well. Prices of various life-saving drugs have increased considerably. The price of insulin has increased which is causing inconvenience to diabetic patients.  The BJP party said ‘ache din aye’, but is this ‘ache din aye’ for the common people? he questioned.

Mahanta also said that when Congress was ruling the country the BJP protested that petrol and diesel prices have increased so much. But now the BJP government has increased the prices so much that the common man is finding it difficult to live. The government is killing the people and the Congress wants a reduction in the prices of commodities.

When asked about the visit of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma to Karbi Anglong the chairman of Congress Media Cell said as KAAC election is coming they are coming here bringing with them full bags of lies.

The protest was attended by vice president, APCC, Raju Sahu and general secretary, i/c, Karbi Anglong district Gulap Saikia and vice presidents and general secretaries of KADCC.
