DIPHU, April 24: Chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang said the salaries of Karbi Language Teachers (KLT) and Karbi Medium Teachers (KMT) under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) can be increased depending on the revenue collection of the KAAC.
Attending the annual meeting of KLT and KMT at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall here on Monday, he said that discussions were on with the state government for recognition of KLTs and KMTs.
The KAAC under Karbi Language Development Board (KLDB) has established Karbi Medium Schools in both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong for the development of Karbi language in 2008. In 2007 KLTs were appointed in government ME and high schools to teach Karbi language. There are 29 KMTs and 789 KLTs.
The salary per month for KMT is Rs 17, 000. The KLTs (provincialised) are getting Rs 15, 000 per month.
In the memorandum of KLT and KMT, the CEM said, “We are discussing with the state government for recognition of KLT and KMT. If the KLT and KMT get government recognition then their salaries will be at par with other teachers. They will also get to enjoy other benefits. But now their salaries are being given by KAAC’s revenue sources.”
The teachers are demanding Rs 30,000 per month.
Asking the teachers to be sincere to their duties, the CEM said furniture, school uniforms and school buildings will be constructed for Karbi medium schools.
During the presidential speech the president, KLTA, Dhansing Bey thanked the CEM for his initiative towards the development of Karbi language and also for taking due importance on the grievances of KLTs and KMTs.
The meeting was attended by MP Horensing Bey; MLAs Bidyasing Engleng and Dorsing Ronghang and executive members, KAAC and Members of Autonomous Council (MACs) and chairmen of various development boards.
