DIPHU, June 18: Renowned Karbi singer and actor Malini Tissopi passed away at Diphu Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H) on Wednesday while undergoing treatment after a prolonged illness. She was 39.
Her mortal remains will be laid to rest at her native village, Sarthe Engti Silputa in Volongkom-aji, on Thursday.
She is survived by her husband and two children.
Tissopi rose to fame with her widely appreciated songs and earned recognition in Karbi modern music. In 2011, she was conferred the Best Singer (Female) Award during the 66th Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Foundation Day in honour of her contribution to indigenous music.
Madhuram Lekthe, Member of the Autonomous Council from Langpher and Executive Member of KAAC, extended his condolences via social media.
“Saddened to hear about the sudden demise of Smt. Malini Tissopi, a renowned Karbi singer whose melodious voice and contributions to Karbi music will always be remembered. Her untimely passing is a great loss to the Karbi society and to the world of indigenous art and culture. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he wrote on his official Facebook page.
