Karimganj DC Inaugurates Block Level Health Mela Under Ayushman Bharat

SILCHAR, April 19: In an effort to create awareness on the issue of contagious diseases and facilitate health check-ups for the villagers, a health mela and awareness camp was held at Pathini ME School of Kukithal village in Patharkandi Health Block of Karimganj district on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Ayushman Bharat, on Monday.

Karimganj DC Mridul Yadav graced the occasion as the chief guest and inaugurated the block level health mela.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner expressed his happiness about the health department’s initiative to organise such melas in the rural areas.

He also informed that the patients identified during the five health melas in various blocks will be given priority in Civil Hospital, if they require referral. Moreover, DC Mridul Yadav also emphasised on the preventive measures to be taken for controlling the diseases and urged the public to practice yoga regularly.

It is pertinent to mention that several doctors including gynaecologists, paediatricians, ENT specialists, dentists, etc., attended the mela to provide specialised service at the doorstep of the people in and around the Kukital village.

The villagers were also enrolled for Health ID’s under Ayushman Bharat. Laboratory facilities were provided by the Mobile Medical Teams.

Reportedly around 700 people received the services during the mela. Apart from the services, ‘Biswabina’, a cultural group presented a play as part of health education on Malaria and various stigmas related to fever.

Bednet impregnation was also conducted keeping in view the mosquito breeding season.

It is noteworthy to mention that the Health and Family Welfare Department, Karimganj will organise five health melas across the five blocks during April 18 and 22.

The programme was also attended by Dr. Nazma Begum, addl. CM&HO & i/c Jt. Director of Health Services, Dr. Matindra Sutradhar, deputy superintendent, Patherkandi Model Hospital, Hanif Mohammad, DPM, Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert, L. Prokash Singha, DPC, Debojit Dey, NVBDCP Consultant, Sumit Roy, Epidemiologist, Kalyan Purakayastha, DDM, NHM and many other district and block level officials.
