KOKRAJHAR, Oct 19: The Kati Gasa festival, also known as Kati Bihu, was celebrated in Kokrajhar, the “city of peace,” on Thursday with traditional fervor at the Gendrabil paddy field in the district.

Farmers, along with men and women, came out in the evening to celebrate Kati Gasa, offering prayers and worship to the God Kartik devota.
The event was organized by the women’s wing of Kokrajhar district of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) in association with the Baukhugri block committee, drawing a significant crowd to mark the first day of the Kartik month at Gendrabil village near Kokrajhar town.
Members of the UPPL, dressed in traditional Bodo dokhona attire, brought prayer materials and lit the Gasa (lamp) at the paddy field, offering their prayers and worship to the Kartik devota.
Raju Kumar Narzary, the general secretary of UPPL, Pratibha Brahma, president of the women’s wing and chairperson of Kokrajhar municipality board, Hantigiri Narzary, media cell secretary, and general secretaries of the Kokrajhar district committee, UPPL, including Amulya Sutradhar and Suraj Kumar Mushahary, graced the occasion and lit the Gasa in the presence of the large gathering.
UPPL general secretary Raju Kumar Narzary extended his best wishes to all citizens of the state on the occasion of the Kati Gasa festival, which is celebrated across the state. He emphasized that Kati Gasa is a festival celebrating the harvesting of crops.
Pratibha Brahma, while participating in the celebration, mentioned that they offered prayers and worship to Kartik devota for the welfare and well-being of paddy crops and human beings.
Pramod Boro, the Chief Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Region, extended greetings to the citizens of the state on the occasion of the Kati Gasa festival (Kati Bihu), emphasizing its significance for people involved in agricultural cropping in society.
Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, MLA Lawrence Islary, and ABSU president Dipen Boro also wished a happy Kati Bihu to all citizens of the state.
