KOKRAJHAR, June 20: The 56th death anniversary of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha was observed with solemn reverence and cultural fervour across Kokrajhar district on Friday, in tandem with state-wide celebrations honouring the legendary artist, revolutionary, and cultural icon of Assam.
The event was organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Kokrajhar District Administration.
Commemorative programmes were held at five institutions — Science College, Kokrajhar, Girls’ College, Baokhungri, Janata College, Serfanguri, Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma College, Tipkai (Parbatjhora), and Gossaigaon College, Gossaigaon.
The state-level central function was held in Nalbari district in the presence of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, with the proceedings live-streamed across all participating institutions in Kokrajhar.
At Science College Kokrajhar, Assistant Professor Ratul Deka of Bodoland University delivered a lecture on the enduring legacy of Bishnu Prasad Rabha.
He underscored the icon’s diverse contributions to art, literature, music, and social reform, highlighting their continued relevance in modern society.
The event saw participation from dignitaries, faculty members, local officials, and students.
Earlier in the day, awareness vehicles moved through various parts of the district, playing Rabha Sangeet and spreading awareness of Rabha’s cultural and revolutionary contributions.
