DIBRUGARH, Aug 8: The recently concluded National Space Day-2024 event at DHS Kanoi College in Dibrugarh underscored the vast potential of space science and technology.
The event, held in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NE-SAC), saw notable participation from students, researchers, and space enthusiasts.
Attending the event as the chief guest, Dr Hazarika appreciated the Kanoi College for organising such an event for the first time in upper Assam with such exceptional thinking.
He said this kind of initiative will help to inspire students who want to study space research and develop a research mindset among them.
In his keynote address, Dr. Jiten Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, highlighted the boundless opportunities in space science.
Dr. Hazarika emphasised that advancements in space research are crucial for addressing global challenges and advancing technological innovation.
He encouraged young scientists and students to embrace the challenges of space exploration, underscoring the importance of interdisciplinary research and international collaboration.
The event was moderated by Professor Dr Trishna Duwara Kalita and a welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal, DHS Kanoi College. In his welcome speech, Dr Saikia said that there is every possibility that the students sitting in his front would one day become brave space scientists. and researchers and become a driving force behind groundbreaking space missions in the future.
He thanked ISRO Bangalore and NESAC Meghalaya for providing the opportunity to hold such an event. Dr Saikia also gave a detailed discussion on space technology and its application in society. The event was attended by former Professor PK Bhuyan of Dibrugarh University who spoke about many important aspects of space science.
Earlier a Space exhibition was inaugurated by Prof Paramananda Mahanta, a retired professor at Dibrugarh University, which was organised in conjunction with National Space Day-2024.
Prof Gopal Hazarika, a retired professor at Dibrugarh University, inaugurated a state-of-the-art bus equipped with models of space technology titled Space on Wheels. ISRO’s eminent scientist Aditya R gave a detailed presentation on the successful mission of Chandrayaan-3. A vote of thanks for the first phase of the program was delivered by Dr. Arup Borgohain, a distinguished scientist at NESAC.
A quiz competition was also held among the students from 3 pm in conjunction with the event. The quiz competition was conducted by Francis Dutta of NESAC and Dr Jituranjan Chetia of Dibrugarh University.
The event was attended by a number of eminent personalities of Dibrugarh City, faculty members and staff as well as more than 400 students from about 25 schools and colleges of Dibrugarh district.
