GUWAHATI, June 2: Train services on the Lumding-Silchar Hills section have resumed, returning to normal after a five-day suspension caused by torrential rain and landslides triggered by Cyclone ‘Remal’. The suspension severed rail connections between the Barak Valley and the states of Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram, isolating the Dima Hasao district from the rest of the state.
The restoration of services brought relief to passengers in the Barak Valley and neighbouring states. The first north-eastern link train departed from Lumding and passed through New Haflong station at 6:00 pm, heading towards Badarpur. Subsequently, the Sealdah-Agartala Express left New Haflong station for Agartala at 6:30 pm. Additionally, the special Kanchenjunga Express train from Guwahati to Agartala departed at 1:00 pm.
Even though train services resumed on the hill section, the North Eastern Frontier Railway authorities canceled all passenger trains from Silchar on Saturday and Sunday due to flooding at Silchar railway station. Railway authorities had been working tirelessly to restore the services after the landslides disrupted train operations between Lumding and Badarpur.
