The programme began with the hoisting of the association flag by president Ram Prasad Ambedkar, followed by a memorial tribute (Smriti Tarpan) inaugurated by vice-president Abdul Alim. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp in front of the portrait of renowned litterateur Padmanath Gohain Baruah was performed by Tarun Gogoi, president of the Ledo Central Namghar Managing Committee. A tribute to Assam’s beloved musician Zubeen Garg was also held.

The event was inaugurated by veteran litterateur and journalist Jagat Changmai. An intimate discussion session with senior and new journalists, moderated by Rana Jyoti Neog, General Secretary of the Association, provided a platform for exchanging experiences and ideas. The session featured poetry recitals by Rana Jyoti Neog, Samiran Barthakur and Amit Das, Bhaona dialogues by Prabhat Borah and Tapan Gogoi and performances of Zubeen Garg’s immortal songs by Abdul Alim.

During the session, chief guest Jagat Changmai highlighted the critical social responsibility of journalists as vigilant sentinels of society. All association members were honoured with certificates of appreciation.

Founded on November 15, 2002, at Adarsh Hindi Vidyalaya High School, Bargolai, the Margherita Journalists’ Association has played a pivotal role in addressing journalists’ concerns as well as the broader socio-economic issues of the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency. Discussions were also held on the challenges and potential roles of Maharatna Company Northeastern Coalfields (Coal India Ltd) in revitalising the regional industry, with plans for special initiatives in the near future, said Rana Jyoti Neog.
