Ministry of Agriculture delegation visits Morigaon

MORIGAON, April 13: A high-level delegation team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers welfare visited Morigaon on Saturday.

The delegation, led by Franklin Z Khobuy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development visited Amlighat Banana Producer Company under Jagiroad Agricultural Circle.

During the visit, the team held discussions with the members and office bearers of the farmer producer groups on various topics like chips made from bananas, market addition, business benefits, problems and their solutions, benefits of departmental schemes etc. He also directed the officers and employees of the department to take all measures to promote the feasibility of organic farming in Morigaon.

The delegation included Director of Organic Agriculture, Government of India, Director, Horticulture and Food Processing Department, Government of Assam, Accountant Officer (Government of India), Chief Executive Officer, Sikkim Organic Farming Agency and State Nodal Officers of MOvCD Scheme Apart from the State Nodal Officer, Directorate of Agriculture Officer Mustakim Hussain was also present.

The inspection team led by District Agriculture Officer Ashok Kumar Sharma then visited Deoshal Mahila Agro Organic Producer Company. During the visit, she discussed with the women members of the farmer producer groups about the production and income of the group, various problems faced by the members and their solutions.

The team was accompanied by Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Gautam Nath and concerned officers and employees of Morigaon District Agriculture Department during the inspection.
