NAGAON, Jan 25: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Assam Regional Office in Guwahati organised the second batch of the Livelihoods and Enterprise Development Programme (LEDP) training on pearl culture and agarbatti making in Tripura Basti, Radhanagar GP of Jugijan Development Block, Hojai.
The training program was inaugurated by Rajendra Perna, DDM at NABARD, in the presence of representatives from various banks, the Fisheries Department, District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC), implementing agency Hojai Unnayan Mancha (HUM), and the master trainer.
Rajendra Perna explained that LEDPs focus on promoting livelihoods in clusters, involving initial intensive skill training, refresher training as needed, backward-forward linkages, and handholding support. LEDPs cover the entire value chain, providing end-to-end solutions.
The training on pearl culture and agarbatti making is designed for 60 members of matured Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in two batches of 30 participants each. The sessions cover topics such as record-keeping, bookkeeping, enterprise management, business dynamics, and practical aspects of pearl culture and agarbatti making.
For pearl culture, participants learn about the life cycle of mussels, pearl production, varieties of pearls, pH level maintenance, mussel surgery, feeding, and harvesting. The agarbatti making training covers ingredient mixing, bamboo stick making, use of fragrances, packaging, marketing, and more.
The LEDP training aims to enhance the understanding and entrepreneurial skills of participants, enabling them to start their micro units in pearl culture and agarbatti making.
