National seminar organised at HCDG College

DEMOW, Dec 2: The Teachers’ Unit and IQAC of HCDG College, Nitaipukhuri, in collaboration with the Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA), organised a national seminar on ‘Indian Knowledge System and North East India: Prospects and Challenges’ for two days. By lighting the lamp in the inaugural session, Jyotiprasad Gogoi, former secretary and president of ACTA, inaugurated the two-day national seminar. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Birinchi Kumar Borah, principal of HCDG College, Nitaipukhuri. In his address, he mentioned the sacrifice and dedication of the education enthusiasts of the greater Nitai-Panidehing area.

The college was established in 1965, and since then, it has gone through many obstacles and has reached its diamond jubilee year. In the rationale of the seminar, organising secretary Dr LX Polin Hazarika mentioned the importance of IKS in the present-day context. Since NEP 2020 has also given importance to IKS, it is important to discuss and explore the influence and presence of IKS in various fields of knowledge. The abstract volume was released by Dr Biju Moran, academic secretary, ACTA. The esteemed members from the Zonal Committee of Sivasagar Zone, ACTA—Dr Rajib Hazarika, Dr Haren Hazarika, Dr Romen Kalita, and Dr Tulsi Sonowal—were also present in the inaugural session.

The keynote speech of the seminar was delivered by Professor Chandan Kumar Sarma, head of the department of History at Dibrugarh University. In his speech, he mentioned the two perspectives of the Indian Knowledge System. He further indicated the importance of the application of the Indian Knowledge System in the present-day context. Manashi Gogoi, vice principal of the college, Dr Gitamoni Handique Gogoi, IQAC coordinator, and scholars from different colleges and other institutions were also present in the inaugural session.

On November 30, the seminar started with a session, which was followed by the valedictory session. In a vote of thanks, Dr Rashmi Rekha Duwarah, on behalf of the organising committee, offered gratitude to the Central Committee and Zonal Committee of the Assam College Teachers’ Association for the collaboration.
