GUWAHATI, Aug 27: NF Railway has been adopting several initiatives to enhance the freight transportation system within the zone and improve customer interface. Among these initiatives, several stations were opened in July 2024 for handling both inward and outward goods traffic to facilitate smooth and efficient transportation for various goods.
To improve customer interface and augment freight revenue, Panchgram station in Barak Valley, Cachar district, was opened for handling outward limestone traffic using full rake transportation facilities effective July 2, 2024. Simultaneously, the zone has also emphasised special provisions for bamboo transportation. Twenty freight wagons of bamboo chips were loaded from Dhemaji station under the Tinsukia division, and forty mini wagons loaded with bamboo cuts were dispatched from Vishwanath Chariali station under the Rangiya division.
Similarly, NF Railway has made dedicated efforts across other divisions to enhance BDU (Business Development Unit) initiatives. It has booked both full and mini rakes to facilitate the transportation of commodity consignments such as maize, rice, bamboo cuts, bamboo chips, stone chips, and potatoes. This initiative has generated additional revenue of Rs 2.31 crore during the month by loading commodities at stations like Dhemaji, Biswanath Chariali, Falakata, New Coochbehar, Binnaguri, and Alipurduar Jn. A total of 175 freight wagons and 3 parcel vans were loaded from these stations during the month. Additionally, consignments of stone chips and potatoes were transported from Binnaguri to Bairabi and from Alipurduar to Silghat Town and Agartala, respectively.
Improving customer interface in freight transportation will revolutionise the interaction between business units and the railways, offering unparalleled convenience, efficiency, and transparency. By embracing digitalisation, prioritising communication, and adopting customer-centric policies, the railways are poised to become the preferred choice for logistic services in the nation.
