Lati Gogoi, a revered literary figure, devoted social worker, and esteemed recipient of numerous state-level literary awards, passed away on June 25, 2023, at a city hospital in Guwahati. She was 80 years old. Lati Gogoi was a resident of Suhagpur area in Rehabari and was the beloved wife of the late Professor Prabin Kumar Gogoi, former secretary of AHSEC.

Lati Gogoi is survived by her two sons, a daughter, two daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, and seven grandchildren. Her legacy extends beyond her familial ties, as her impactful contributions to literature will be cherished for generations to come.

Her remarkable talent as a writer shines through her acclaimed works, many of which have been translated into Hindi and English. These captivating stories were published in renowned publications such as ‘Assam Tribune’ and ‘The Sentinel’. Lati Gogoi’s profound literary prowess also found expression in her regular contributions to Assamese literary magazines, including ‘Goriyoxi’, ‘Amar Axom’, ‘Doinik Axom’, ‘Axomiya Pratidin’, ‘Axomiya Khobor’, ‘Agradut’, ‘Shreemoyee’, and ‘Sadin’, among others.

Her literary prowess extended beyond the pages of print, as her short stories and other remarkable writings were also broadcasted on the esteemed ‘Aideour Buloni’ program of Akashvani, Guwahati.

In recognition of her literary contributions, Lati Gogoi was honoured with the Sahitwik pension by the Government of Assam in 2006. Her published works, including ‘Mukto bihomgom’ (a collection of short stories), ‘Duranir Dexor sadhu’ (a book for children), ‘Morisika’ (a collection of short stories), ‘Kiman je sadhu, kiman je ghotona’, ‘Meghaloyar Xubash’, and ‘Xamragye’, stand as a testament to her creativity and literary prowess.
