SIVASAGAR, May 17: Several organisations, led by ATASU, carried out a 2-hour sit-in demonstration in front of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s statue in Sivasagar, demanding severe punishment for the alleged killer husband of Pankhi Handique. The protesters demanded the dismissal of the alleged killer husband, Nitikesh Das, from his service. They also demanded the suspension of police officers Nilkamal Barua and Drunakanta Deuri, whom they alleged neglected the investigation. The protesters later submitted a memorandum to district commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav. The victim’s body was recovered in a rented house in Namrup on May 2, where she lived with her husband, stirring up angry reactions from people in all places demanding capital punishment for the accused husband.
