Protest against Margherita gynecologist for molesting woman

MARGHERITA, Feb 24: All Assam Gorkha Student Union (AAGSU) Tinsukia district committee on Monday staged 2 hours dharna in Margherita in protest to alleged misconduct to a 22- year old girl by Dr Selix Alom gynecologist posted at Margherita FRU/civil hospital.

The protests, led by All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Tinsukia district committee, demanded capital punishment for Alom and justice for the victim’s family.

The protesters marched from North Margherita Rangamancha towards Margherita co-district commissioner office, where they shouted various slogans against Margherita police and Margherita co-district commissioner for not taking stringent action against Alom.

The protesters carried placards, festoons and raised various slogans demanding justice for the victim.

Ashok Lama president of All Assam Gorkha Student Union (AAGSU) Tinsukia district committee while addressing media persons of Margherita termed the incident unfortunate that a 22 years old girl was allegedly molested by Alom for several months and was forced to have beef meat.

The incident sparked widespread protests and was brutally assaulted by irate protesters and later the victim family members and AAGSU Tirap Jagun Regional committee lodged an FIR at Margherita police station.

Ashok Lama said, “Doctors are regarded as second God but unfortunately vested interest like Alom ruined the life of a upcoming 22- year old girl.”

The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister of Assam through the Margherita co-district commissioner, demanding capital punishment for Alom and compensation for the victim’s family. Meanwhile Central Muslim Committee, Margherita have boycotted Alom from the muslim community of Margherita and demanded capital punishment and to cancel the license permanently issued by the Medical Council of India.
