JORHAT, March 2: Former Congress party leader of the state, Rana Goswami, who had quit the party on February 28 and joined the BJP on February 29, has been appointed as a vice-president of Assam state unit of BJP on Saturday.
According to BJP sources, in an order issued on Saturday by Assam Pradesh BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, Goswami has been appointed as a vice-president of the state unit of the party.
Goswami, a former AICC national secretary, a two-time Jorhat MLA, who was also an APCC working president and organizational in-charge of Upper Assam and four districts of northern Assam, first resigned as an organisational in-charge of the districts on February 25 and then from the party on February 28.
He then joined the BJP at the ruling party’s state head-office in Guwahati on February 29 in the presence of chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bhabesh Kalita.
