Relief material distributed in West Karbi Anglong

DONGKAMUKAM, June 1: Satgaon Catholic Parish, West Karbi Anglong on Saturday distributed relief materials to 61 flood affected families of Lalmati, New Bithung and Deramukh village.

The materials include 5 kgs rice, 2 kgs potatoes, 2kgs lentils, 2kgs sugar, 1 kg onion, 1/2 kg salt and 1 litre edible oil.

The rations were distributed by Fr Albert Thyrniang and Fr Charles Sangma and lay person Nitendra Sangma and India Catholic Youth Movement, president, Evarius Sangma.

Fr Albert Thyrniang speaking before the distribution informed that the relief materials and rations were acquired with small donations received from the Parish collected over last two years after the flood that occurred in June 2022. He urged the parishioners to contribute more to face any eventuality in the future.

Fr Charles Sangma also appreciated the contribution made by generous parishioners and the items can be given to those in need during natural calamities. Before the distribution began Nitendra Sangma conducted the mass prayer.

Meanwhile, the flood water is receding. However flood affected villagers sheltering in temporary camps could not return to their homes yet. Communication between Tumpreng of West Karbi Anglong and Hojai is still cut off.
