SIVASAGAR, June 18: Nijora Das, a middle-aged woman, was returning home near the historic Athai Sagar from her brother’s residences in Rudrasagar on Monday evening. As she was about to enter her campus, she noticed a polythene bag hanging on a pole near her gate. She brought it home and, to her surprise, found a beautiful flute-playing Krishna idol, believed to be very old. Along with it, she also found a letter from an unknown person, neatly typed in Assamese.

The letter stated that the person’s family had inherited the idol from their great grandfather’s days and had been devoutly worshipping it. However, after the tragedy of losing four babies over the last ten years, they are expecting a new baby. Before the arrival of the new baby, they dreamt several times that the idol should be donated to the new branch of Jakhalabandha Satra, to be set up on the bank of the Ahom era borpukhuri. Therefore, they decided to donate the idol to the Satra institution for peace in their family. The letter also mentioned that the wife has now delivered a healthy baby and that the person would donate Rs 10 lakh to the Satra.

Her neighbours have now decided to invite the Satradhikar of Jakhalabandha Satra to take the next step.
