TEZPUR, April 23: As per a directive from the Excise Department dry day has been declared in Sonitpur and with an aim to ensure the peaceful first phase of the upcoming Panchayat Elections on May 2.
May 4 has also been declared dry day and additionally, on May 4 until the completion of the counting process dry day has been declared.
During the “Dry Day”, all retail “OFF” and “ON” shops including club “ON”, hotel “ON”, IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) shops, wholesale warehouses, and country liquor outlets must remain closed. Any violation of this order will invite strict action under the provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules. Treating this matter as an election-related urgency, the District Commissioner of Sonitpur district, Ankur Bharali, has issued this order.
