GUWAHATI, Sept 4: Surojit Academy, a renowned cultural training centre in Guwahati, has received an invitation to participate in the prestigious ‘National Puppet Dance Festival’ held at the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum in Bhopal from September 13 to 17. This festival is organised by the Tribal Folk Arts and Speech Development Akademi, Madhya Pradesh Cultural Affairs.
Surojit Academy will showcase two captivating puppet plays, ‘Tejimola’ and ‘Ravana Badha’, both based on the fairy folk tale ‘Tejimola’ by Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaruah. These plays are written by Simanta Sarma, a senior fellowship awardee from the Ministry of Culture, government of India. Binita Devi, a recipient of the National Tagore Research Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, government of India, has skilfully directed these productions.
Both ‘Tejimola’ and ‘Ravana Badha’ have garnered acclaim in various cultural events organised by the government of India. The performances will feature string puppets, stick puppets, and shadow puppets, adding a diverse and vibrant visual dimension to the shows. The music for these plays has been composed by Papu Gohain.
The talented cast includes Dhruba Jyoti Kalita, Binita Devi, Palak Koiri, Pranab Jyoti Rava, Rekibul Ahmed, Ankur Das, Karismita Talukdar, and Simant Sarma. Their performances promise to captivate audiences and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Assam through the art of puppetry. The performances are scheduled for September 17, and the entire team is excited to share these remarkable stories with a wider audience.
