JORHAT, Aug 12: Teok and Mariani in Jorhat district on Tuesday officially began functioning as co-districts after Titabar, as Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Excise and other departments Atul Bora, and Minister of Transport, Cooperation and other departments Jogen Mohan inaugurated the offices of the newly-formed co-districts.
Titabar was inaugurated in October 2024.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Minister said that forming co-districts within existing districts was a novel initiative of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government aimed at decentralising the district administration.
Stating that the initiative was another step of the government to bring administration closer to the people, the Minister said that co-districts will benefit the public in many ways.
Citing the benefits, Bora said that people residing within the co-district areas would no longer have to visit the district headquarters for matters related to land, MLA funds, untied funds or implementation of government schemes.
He said a number of essential services will be provided by the co-district administration, which will have administrative control over all departments within its jurisdiction.
He stated that the boundaries of co-districts have been drawn on the pattern of the delimitation carried out in the Assembly constituencies.
Dergaon MLA Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Jorhat DC Jay Shivani, SP Shwetank Mishra, several district administration officials, and BJP and AGP district leaders were among those who attended the programme.
Meanwhile, Minister Jogen Mohan inaugurated the Mariani co-district office at Sukanjania, Teok-Boloma Road, at a function organised at Lahing Grant High School campus.
Mohan, in his address, stated that the formation of co-districts was part of the government’s move to enable citizens to get several essential services near their homes instead of travelling long distances to district headquarters.
Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, the Jorhat DC, district administration officials and local people attended the event.
It is pertinent to mention here that in October last year, the government had constituted 39 co-districts across the State.
