TEZPUR, Nov 28: In its inaugural edition of the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, Tezpur University, the only ranked institute in northeastern India, has been placed at the 35th position among Indian universities engaged in interdisciplinary science education and research. Interdisciplinary science research holds the promise of unlocking insights from multiple academic disciplines to address global challenges. This ranking is the first of its kind to measure universities’ contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science.
According to the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025 (THE-ISR), 749 higher education institutes from 92 countries/territories were ranked based on their contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science. THE-ISR uses eleven carefully calibrated performance indicators to assess institutions across key areas, including interdisciplinary science research expenditure, the success of such research, facilities for interdisciplinary science research, and administrative support, including promotional policies. THE-ISR evaluates data from 157 million citations, 18 million research publications, and survey responses from more than 20,000 scholars globally.
Prof DC Baruah, director of the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research, who also leads the Internal Quality Assurance Team of the university, stated that the THE-ISR global recognition will further enhance the interdisciplinary culture of education at the university.
Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, vice-chancellor of the university, congratulated the TU fraternity engaged in interdisciplinary research for the global recognition of their work. He expressed hope that the efforts of TU researchers would excel even further in the future.
