GUWAHATI, Oct 29: In light of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s scheduled visit to Guwahati on October 30, the Guwahati Traffic Police has released a notice outlining specific restrictions affecting vehicular movement.
To ensure the safety of the public, especially vulnerable road users such as children, students, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals, the traffic directives are as follows:
NH-27 and NH-17: Plying of commercial goods-carrying vehicles with four wheels and above will be restricted within Guwahati City from 8 am to 8 pm on October 30, 2023.
AT Road, DG Road, MG Road, Tyabullah Road, GNB Road, B. Barooah Road, and GS Road: Movement of commercial goods-carrying vehicles with three wheels and above will be restricted from 7 am to 4 pm on 30th October 2023.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar is scheduled to attend the third convocation of the Assam Royal Global University in Guwahati, where he will be the chief guest. The ceremony, presided over by the University’s Visitor, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, will have Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the guest of honour, accompanied by education minister Ranoj Pegu.
A total of 1197 students will be awarded degrees and diplomas on the occasion. 42 gold medals and 45 silver medals will also be awarded to the position holders of different programmes.
The Chancellor’s Gold medals, for the UG and the PG will be awarded to students for their overall performance in the University including their exemplary academic and co-curricular achievements. Four Salvers will be awarded to students for their outstanding achievements in co-curricular activities.
Gini Devi Pansari Award for Excellence in Literary Activities, Sanwarmal Modi Award for Excellence in Cultural Activity and Basudeo Pansari Award for Excellence in Community Service, Suresh Kumar Prithani Award for Excellence in Mentoring and Hemant Kumar Lohia Award for Excellence in Sports, shall also be awarded to the selected students.
The traffic restrictions have been put in place to facilitate the smooth passage of emergency vehicles, such as ambulances and fire tenders, and ensure the safety of vulnerable road users during the Vice President’s visit to Guwahati. This measure aims to create an environment conducive to safe and uninterrupted passage for essential emergency services.
