Training Programme Of Polling Personnel Held In Sonitpur

TEZPUR, March 23: A training programme of polling personnel was organized by the office of the Sonitpur district election officer at the auditorium of the Tezpur Academy School in Tezpur on Saturday.

The programme was organized for around 35 officials of the state public works department, who will de deputed in various places for duty during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.

District commissioner and returning officer of 11-Sonitpur House of People Constituency, Deba Kumar Mishra visited the venue of the training programme and interacted with the trainees.

Addressing the gathering, the district commissioner highlighted on an inclusive election where all eligible sections of the society take part in the democratic process. He informed that 11-Sonitpur HPC has planned out three model polling stations, one in Dhekiajuli and two in Tezpur to be manned by officials of the public works department. He assured the trainees that the Sonitpur district administration will provide all necessary assistance such as porters, special transportation and health facilities among others in these three polling stations.

During the programme, the trainers were provided the polling personnel with hands-on training on the use of EVMs and explained in detail their roles and responsibilities. An interactive session was also held during which doubts and possible difficulties that may be faced by the trainees were addressed.

Meanwhile, a review meeting on poll preparedness was also held on Friday at the DC office. The meeting was presided over by the state’s chief electoral officer, Anurag Goel. Sonitpur district commissioner and returning officer of 11-Sonitpur PC Deba Kumar Mishra and cell in-charges were also present on the occasion.

Goel also visited the Darrang College in Tezpur where he took stock of the strong room and counting centres. He then briefly attended the training programme for women presiding officers, which was also being held at the college. 11-Sonitpur PC have 150 polling stations to be exclusively manned by women polling personnel.
