BISWANATH CHARIALI, May 20: Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Biswanath and Sootea police today apprehended two drug peddlers and seized a significant quantity of narcotics in Sootea.
The operation, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Biswanath, along with Trilochan Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sootea Police Station, resulted in the recovery of 60.56 grams of heroin and 43 containers used for packaging the drug.
The accused have been identified as Jamir Ali (34), son of Abdul Barek from Rowmari, Borghat, and Ikramul Hussain (32), son of Abdul Karim from Khanamukh under Chariduar Police Station. The duo was intercepted while traveling in a tempo (registration number AS12CC1410) en route to Sootea to sell the contraband.
The arrests were made at Potiya Gaon Tiniali, where the police team stopped the vehicle and discovered the heroin. An investigation into the case is currently underway to trace the supply chain and uncover further links.
