DIPHU, June 27: The Union Bank of India, a government of India undertaking, opened its new branch office at Dharamnala in Diphu town last Wednesday. This is the second branch in the district; the first branch is at Tumpreng in West Karbi Anglong.
Former minister Holiram Terang, in whose building the Union Bank of India has opened its branch office, inaugurated it.
Inaugurating the branch, Terang said it is a positive sign that more banks are coming to Diphu town and opening branches. With more banks, there will be a competitive spirit in financial activities.
Regional head from the regional office in Jorhat, Bhaskar Mondal, said, “We are very proud that a second branch office has come up here in Diphu. The first was at Tumpreng, West Karbi Anglong. The opening of a branch office here is one of the North East expansion programmes under which the Union Bank is pledged and is continuously expanding its branches and activities in North East India. The Union Bank of India has a rich heritage and history since 1919, whose foundation was laid by Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation.”
Last year, a regional head office was set up in Jorhat. There are 40 branches in the North East region. The main objective of the bank is to connect more and more customers to the bank, provide them with essential banking services, and educate the people on financial literacy, Mondal said. He urged the customers to connect more people to the bank for banking services and avail the benefits of these services.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Retail Loan Point head Sanjay Sharma, MSME Loan Point head Paban Mandal, Diphu branch manager Ann Bey, and Dimapur branch head Daimalu Baglary.
