Voting Concludes Peacefully in Dima Hasao District, voters’ turnout at 73.35%

Polling held at 254 polling stations, no untoward incident reported in district

GUWAHATI, April 26: The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections passed off peacefully in the Dima hasao district on Friday, with the district recording a voters’ turnout of 73.35 per cent.

Voting commenced at 7 am on Friday in Dima Hasao district under the 6-Diphu (ST) parliamentary assembly. However, compared to the fervour witnessed during the last North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council elections, the enthusiasm among the electorate for this Lok Sabha election appeared subdued. No reports of delays in the voting process in Dima Hasao district have surfaced, with the casting of votes passing off peacefully and no untoward incidents reported so far.

Prominent figures such as Debolal Gorlosa, the chief executive member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, exercised their franchise in Maibang, while state minister Nandita Gorlosa cast her vote later in the day in Haflong.

In the Haflong Legislative Assembly constituency within Dima Hasao district, falling under the 6-Diphu Lok Sabha constituency, the voters’ turnout stood at around 73.35%. However, the exact turnout will be available only after detailed inputs are received from the different polling stations of Dima Hasao from the district election officer once the report is compiled.

Polling took place at a total of 254 polling stations in the distric. This provided an opportunity for the 1,55,259 registered voters, comprising of 77,327 males and 77,932 females to exercise their franchise.

An encouraging move towards gender inclusivity was witnessed with the establishment of 15 all-women polling stations, where both civil and police officials were women, aimed at bolstering female voters’ turnout. Furthermore, three model polling stations were set up in Haflong, which were equipped with comprehensive amenities to facilitate a seamless voting experience for citizens.

Polls were conducted on Friday at the -Haflong (ST) LAC segment of Diphu (ST) constituency, along with Bokajan, Howraghat, Diphu, Ronghang, and Amri Legislative Assembly constituencies under the Karbi Anglong district.

The voters’ turnout of Dima Hasao was 77.71 per cent in 242 polling stations during the last Lok Sabha election in 2019, where the Haflong (ST) Legislative Assembly constuituency segment in Dima Hasao was a part of 3-Autonomous District along with Bokajan, Howraghat, Diphu, and Baithalango under the Karbi Anglong district.
