The programme was organised by the Lekhapani Forest Range Office in collaboration with the New Kenia Gaon LP School managing committee, where the Village Defence Party, self-help group, Lekhapani Gaon Panchayat, school students, guardians, and the school managing committee also participated.

Gagan Nahar Deka, headmaster of New Kenia Gaon LP School, moderated the whole programme, and Parasmita Neog, Lekhapani forest range officer, who was present as the chief guest, was felicitated with a traditional Assamese gamosa.

Parasmita Neog, in his speech, said that New Kenia Gaon is a remote village under Lekhapani Gaon Panchayat, which is surrounded by a forest reserve area. Unfortunately, some vested interest groups in this locality are involved in the poaching of wildlife and chopping down precious trees. With this in mind, the ‘Protect Wildlife’ programme was organised to raise awareness among the residents of New Kenia Gaon.

Local residents of New Kenia Gaon said that their village is surrounded by forest reserve areas under the Lekhapani Forest Range Office of the Digboi Forest Division. Unfortunately, illegal poaching of wildlife and chopping down of precious trees is rampant in this area. Through this awareness programme, they aim to make people understand the importance of protecting mother nature.
