DIPHU, Oct 23: To provide a platform for young budding singing talents in Karbi Anglong, the Angtong Musical Society (AMS) hosted Karbi Anglong Idol Season-4, a singing competition where prizes were awarded on Monday evening in a function held at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall. The competition was organised in collaboration with the Karbi Artistes’ Forum (KAF).
Nine contestants competed in the grand finale for the title of Karbi Anglong Idol 2024, which took place on Monday at Diphu Club.
Alisha Engtipi and Anupama Khati were jointly declared the winners, securing the title of Karbi Anglong Idol Season-4. Their names were announced by MP Amarsing Tiso and MLA Bidyasing Engleng, who graced the prize distribution function as the chief guest and guest of honour, respectively. The two title winners shared a cheque for Rs 50,000 along with certificates and trophies.
The names of the first runners-up, Bidya Hanse and Sahitda Khushbu Rahman, were announced by MLA Dorsing Ronghang and district commissioner Nirola Phangchopi. They also shared a cheque for Rs 30,000, including certificates and trophies. Finally, the names of the second runners-up, Promila Tokbipi and Roshmi Dey, were declared by MAC Phenpiga Rengma and social worker Bikrom Ronghang. They shared a cheque for Rs 20,000 and received trophies and certificates.
MP Tisso said, “There are many young talents in villages, but as they don’t get a proper platform, their singing talent remains unexposed. By organising Karbi Anglong Idol, the Angtong Musical Society has created a platform for young talents. I congratulate the society for taking such an initiative.”
The MP also encouraged the contestants not to be confined to their own district, but to compete at state and national levels. There should be a platform for young talents to develop their skills and become professionals, the MP highlighted.
Adding colour to the evening, the finalists performed solo and duet songs from Karbi films and Bollywood. Sensational singer Nitu Timungpi, along with emerging singer Mendeso Rongphar and Semson Engti (junior), enthralled the audience with their popular numbers. Dance performances by Dance Karbi Anglong Dance, Hey Baby Group, and solo dancer Nousirin Qais Khan captivated the audience with their beautiful dance steps. Judges Bare Rongpharpi and Sarthe Rongpi also took the stage with their popular songs, captivating the audience.
President of Angtong Musical Society, Mongal Rongpi, said the society would facilitate opportunities for the winners to participate in state and national level competitions. They will also be given a chance as playback singers in Karbi and regional films.
Secretary Projen Phangcho thanked the sponsors, well-wishers, and the crowd for supporting the show. He also expressed gratitude to the judges, noted singers Bare Rongpharpi and Sarthe Rongpi, for judging the competition.
