DIPHU, Aug 16: Independence Day was marred by a series of tragic incidents resulting in the loss of lives. At Kangthilangso Waterfall under Dokmoka police station, a youth named Akash Shill, a 20-year-old student in the 12th standard, drowned while on a picnic with five friends from Lanka. The group had arrived on motorcycles for the celebration. Tragedy struck as they were bathing, leading to Akash Shill’s drowning around 2 pm. He was the son of Samuel Shill and Rita Moni Shill, residing in Ward no 7 of Lanka town in Hojai district.
In another unfortunate occurrence on the same day around 4 pm, a Tata Sumo with registration number AS02T3712, while returning from Kangthilangso Waterfall, veered off the road and plunged into a ditch. This accident claimed the life of Pradip Debnath (42), who hailed from Howraghat Debosthan Bazaar under the jurisdiction of Murazhar police station. He lost his life on the spot, and his body was transferred to Diphu Medical College & Hospital for postmortem.
The third incident unfolded at Dokmoka Sluice Gate, where a youth named Bijoy Teron (23), son of Dhansing Teron, had ventured with friends for a picnic. Tragedy struck as Bijoy Teron drowned while bathing, leading to his untimely death.
