RANCHI, July 16: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said India will give a befitting reply to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, underscoring the country’s commitment to ensuring peace in the region in the wake of the death of four soldiers in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Four army personnel, including a captain, died after being injured in a gunfight with heavily armed terrorists in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“India will give a befitting reply to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Peace has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir and it is our responsibility to maintain it. We will counter every conspiracy of Pakistan,” he told reporters here.
Sarma, currently on a two-day visit to Jharkhand as the BJP’s Jharkhand election co-incharge, attended worker felicitation events and Vijay Sankalp Sabhas in Torpa and Khunti assembly constituencies.
He praised the NDA workers for their efforts in securing nine Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand, which contributed to Narendra Modi’s re-election as Prime Minister.
Sarma criticised Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, accusing him of neglecting tribals and engaging in corrupt practices.
“He (Hemant) is not a leader for tribals, but a leader who runs behind the chair. He has proved that by removing former chief minister Champai Soren,” Sarma said, adding that, “He was removed because the leaders who surround Hemant Soren knew that Champai would not allow them to do corruption.”
Sarma also alleged that the state’s demographic balance is being disrupted by Bangladeshi infiltrators and called for legislation to prevent tribal girls from marrying them.
“The infiltrators are marrying tribal girls and occupying tribal land indirectly. I think there should be a law in Jharkhand which should have provision that tribal girls cannot marry an infiltrator,” he said.
Sarma further criticised Soren’s failure to fulfill election promises, such as providing jobs and unemployment allowances. He accused Soren’s government of poor law and order and inadequate women’s safety, suggesting that the administration is preoccupied with sand smuggling.
“Soren had promised to give five lakh jobs if his government is formed in Jharkhand. But, he did not give even one lakh jobs. Similarly, he promised to provide unemployment allowances from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 but no youth has got the benefit,” the Assam CM said.
Sarma said the BJP aims to establish a “double-engine government” in Jharkhand by defeating the current administration.
On Wednesday, he will address party workers at the BJP headquarters in Ranchi. The state BJP has been celebrating their Lok Sabha victories through worker felicitation programs and Vijay Sankalp Sabhas since July 6. (PTI)
