New Delhi, April 15: The Election Commission of India (EC) revealed today that, even before the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections commences later this week, enforcement authorities have confiscated over ₹4,650 crore.
According to the poll panel’s statement, this year’s seizures could surpass all previous records in Lok Sabha election history. Since March 1, authorities have been confiscating an average of ₹100 crore worth of assets daily.
The EC also reported a significant increase in seizures of drugs and freebies compared to the 2019 general elections, with drugs worth ₹2,068.8 crore confiscated, surpassing the ₹1,279.9 crore seized in 2019.
These actions demonstrate the EC’s dedication to combating electoral malpractices and ensuring a fair electoral process. The upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which hold high stakes, will be conducted in seven phases.
The first phase is scheduled to commence on April 19, and vote counting will occur on June 4. The states participating in the first phase of polling include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
