East Siang Police apprehends drug peddler in Ruksin

ITANAGAR, May 5: In a significant breakthrough under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized approximately 7.63 grams of suspected heroin near Ruksin Petrol Pump on Monday.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) of East Siang launched a swift operation that led to the arrest of Shri Usman Ali (Ahmed), a resident of the Sawmill area in Pasighat, who was caught red-handed. Ali has reportedly been involved in the illicit sale of narcotics for an extended period.

The operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ayup Boko, ADS In-charge, and supported by SI K. Dagium, Constables K. Perme and P. Kiger, and Lady Constable K. Atraham. The team conducted the seizure in strict adherence to the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, in the presence of Circle Officer, Ruksin, acting as Executive Magistrate, and independent witnesses.

From the accused, the following items were recovered: 7.63 grams of suspected heroin, Rs 600 in cash and one used syringe.

The apprehended individual and seized items were brought to Ruksin Police Station and handed over to the Officer-in-Charge. A case has been registered under Ruksin PS Case No. 11/2025, U/S 21(a) of the NDPS Act, and investigations are currently underway.

Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba commended the ADS team for their efficient action and reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance stance against drug-related offenses. He further appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is essential in making East Siang a drug-free district.
