Imphal, April 18: Manipur is ready for the first phase of the 17th Lok Sabha General Elections, scheduled for tomorrow, April 19th, 2024. The polls will open for both the Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituencies.
The state has a total of 15,44,652 voters, including 7,41,849 males, 8,02,557 females, and 246 transgender individuals. Voting will occur across 32 Assembly Segments for Inner Manipur and 15 Assembly Segments for Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituencies.
In a significant move, 645 polling stations will be managed by women, and two stations will be managed by Persons with Disabilities (PwD). Provisions for Internally Displaced Voters have been made with 85 special polling stations.
Ten candidates are contesting in this phase, 6 from Inner Manipur and 4 from Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituencies. Monitoring measures include webcasting/videography in 1256 polling stations and deployment of CAPF and Micro Observers.
Facilities for PwD and elderly voters, Voter Assistance Booths, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers have been arranged. Technological innovations include the e-Traccar App and the Poll Star App.
Control Rooms have been established for coordination and management. The Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, encourages all voters to actively participate and carry their EPIC or any of the 12 alternative identity documents for identification.
