GUWAHATI, Jan 16: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been adopting several initiatives to improve the freight transportation and provide better customer interface.
As parts of these initiatives, the NFR has opened few more stations for handling of both inward and outward goods traffic in December last year to facilitate easier transportation of various goods by different segments of customer.
To improve customer interface and augment freight revenue, Mirza station under Rangiya division has been opened for handling of inward automobile traffic (only two-wheeler) with effect from December 4 last year. Indian Custom Yard station under the Jogbani – Biratnagar international connectivity project with Nepal in Katihar division has been opened for handling of container traffic for chassis stuffing/de-stuffing and lift off – lift on operation with effect from December 22 last year.  A mini rake was loaded
for the first time from Ditokcherra in Assam’s Cachar district to Bishramganj in Tripura’s Sipahijala district, which has generated revenue worth Rs. 9.50 lakhs. Such 40 mini rakes are also planned to be loaded from Ditokcherra to New Harangajao in Assam’s Dima Hasao district by the end of the current financial year.
Further, a business development unit (BDU) meeting was conducted by officials of NFR with merchants of Stone Crusher Centre and coal loading parties of Tuli area at Nagaland in December last year. The meeting aims to increase the loading of various goods from Tuli. The merchants are hopeful of loading at least 30 mini rakes from Tuli in the last quarter of this financial year.
Improvement of customer interface and opening of new terminals leads to increase loading and unloading of freight trains. As a result of which the revenue of NFR will significantly grow in the coming years.
