SENAPATI/DIMAPUR, MAY 13: The United Naga Council (UNC) has made a fervent appeal recently to all its units to pray for the “Naga political cause” on May 18 (Sunday). Similar appeal has also been made by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) to the churches in “Naga areas” to pray on May 18.
In a statement, the UNC said, “In reference to the resolution of the Naga political groups (NPGs), tribal hohos, and Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) meeting convened on May 6, 2025, at Pruzie (Shisha Hoho), Kohima, we fervently appeal to all constituent units and subordinate bodies of the UNC for holding a special prayer program during the Sunday devotional service in all the churches of Naga homeland through their respective tribe’s churches association/council on May 18, 2025, to pray for the Naga political cause”.
The UNC then said, “This unified day of prayer aims to seek divine guidance, strength, and blessings for moving forward in unity towards achieving the historical and political rights of the Nagas and lasting peace in Nagalim”.
The UNC added, “Tribe hohos and subordinate bodies are requested to approach their respective apex church councils/associations for prompt implementation”.
Meanwhile, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) said that, on the May 5 and May 6 meeting at Pruzie, Kohima, the “Naga political groups” and the “Naga tribal hohos” have resolved to request the churches in “Naga areas”, through the respective apex church associations/councils to take a moment to pray for the following points, on May 18, 2025.
The FNR said, “Let us come before the lord our Maker and acknowledge that he is our eternal triune God above all gods! Let us humble before him in worship and extol him with thanksgiving and praise. (Psalm 95)”.
The FNR also said, “Let us recognize the sovereignty of God over the destiny of all the peoples of this world”, while adding, “It is God who has determined the times and exact places of all people where they should live (Acts 17:26). Therefore, as Nagas, although scattered in different regions, let us give thanks that we are a unique people in God’s sight, created and redeemed for God’s glory”.
The FNR also said, “Let us remember, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). In sincerity let us confess our shortcomings, wrongdoings and all evil committed before God and to each other. Let us ask forgiveness from God and from each other, so that healing and God”s favor will rest upon us”.
The FNR added by saying, “Let us plead with God, with one heart and mind to hear our prayer of lament”. It also stated that true, lasting peace has eluded our lands for more than 75 years. “Let us seek God’s intervention in the impending Naga political situation. Let us plead that God will act not because we are righteous but for his name”s sake and enduring mercy, He will hear our prayer and intervene. (Dan 9: 18, 19)”, the FNR stated. (NNN)
