‘There will be an exchange of students for academic, research and training purposes’

GUWAHATI, Jan 10: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region for the promotion of students’ training and quality post graduate research in cutting edge areas through collaborative work in the fields of common research interests and allied activities by the two institutions. The MoU was signed on Tuesday at ICAR complex at Umiam by Prof GD Sharma, vice chancellor of USTM and V K Mishra, director of ICAR Meghalaya in the presence of officials of both organisations.
In this context, Prof GD Sharma said, “USTM will recognise ICAR as an institute for conducting research related to the thesis requirement of the research students. The University will recognise scientists of the ICAR Institute as recommended by its director, following the University rules and regulations for guiding students working for degrees”.
He stated that research instrumentation and library facilities with the ICAR and the USTM would be available to the faculty and research scholars. There will be an exchange of students for academic, research and training purposes.
“All those who wish to register as trainees or for Master/Doctoral programme under this MoU must apply for admission at the USTM,” he added.
As per the MoU, the advisory committee will meet at least once a year alternatively to review the activities. This meeting will include a presentation on the academic and research activities, which will be open to the students, faculty and scientists.
