DIPHU, Aug 16: As a part of the 76th Independence Day celebration, the Heavy Squad in collaboration with Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) has organised Men and Women Open Prize Money DeadLift Championship on Monday evening.
The competition was held on open space infront of Ru Semson Sing Engti Memorial Park, where the spectators enjoyed the game under the street lights either sitting or standing on foot paths. There was a large gathering of crowds as the competition was on open space.
In Men’s category Suman Chetry got first position; Drivinson Ronghang in second and Ronjit Timung in third position restively. While in the women’s category, Tamhidi Rongpipi got first position; Linda Sithou in second and Neha Bordoloi third position respectively. The winners of both men and women were awarded with a cash prize, Trophy and a certificate.
The Deadlift Championship was judged by a state referee, Bidyasing Rongpi, and assisted by president, Power Lifting Association of Karbi Anglong, Hudson Bey and secretary, Nikson Kro.
The convenor of Heavy Squad, Mongolsing Ronghang said as part of the 76th Independence Day celebration the deadlift competition was organised for young interested powerlifters. It is also aimed to create sports culture among the youths and to divert their attention towards anti-social activities and taking to addictive substances like smoking, drugs, alcoholism, Shekhar and Ghutkha.
Moreover, Ronghang expressed gratitude to Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang; Executive Member (EM), KAAC Education, Richard Tokbi; MLA Dorsing Ronghang and MAC’s for extending their support and cooperation in this competition.
The convenor also informed there are 120 participants registered, but due to unavoidable circumstances, many participants have not turned up.
