Lumbajong and Rongkhang MAC teams set for final showdown in 3rd MAC Cup

DIPHU, Feb 16: The Lumbajong MAC team and the Rongkhang MAC team have advanced to the final after winning their respective semi-final matches in the ongoing 3rd Inter-Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Cup Football Tournament, held at two separate venues on Saturday. The two finalists, Rongkhang and Lumbajong, will now face each other in the final clash for the Cup on February 18 at the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) Stadium.

The third place match between the loser of semi final 1 Borjan and loser of Semi final -2 Singhason will also be played on the same day (February 18) in the afternoon., informed District Sports Officer, Rilip Ronghang. The tournament is organised by the Sports & Youth Welfare Department, KAAC, aimed at developing football at the grassroot level.

At the field at KASA stadium the Lumbajong boys made a good start. The boys took to an attacking style sneaking into the territory of the visitors to create chances. While the Borjan boys in their white, due to their miss in passes have created rooms for the Lumbajong boys to take on targets. The Lumbajong boys taking control of the ball created good chances and managed to convert 4 goals in the first 45 minutes of the match. Archim Hanse scored an early goal for Lumbajong in the 5th minute of the start of the match. He scored the second goal in the 17th minute. The third goal was scored by Malongkiri Tisso in the 23rd minute and fourth goal in the 37th minute. With the visitors unable to find the back of the net and at the end of first half the host team Lumbajong took the lead by 4 – 0.

The second half showed Borjan boys on resurgence taking on attacking sprees. But despite their spirited effort, they failed to create chances. While the Lumbajong boys, who were hungry for more goals, took their attempts and in the 79th minute Calvin Songate found the fifth goal for his team. Malongkiri Tisso, who was playing as a striker at the injury time (90 + 1 minute) found his second and sixth goal for Lumbajong. Though the visitors displayed a spirited fight, it it was the Lumbajong boys who took the upper hand and at the end of the 90 minutes match ended  with 6-0 by Lumbajong.

In the post match the MAC Johny Timung, who has sponsored the Lumbajong team said, “The match was an entertaining one as both sides fought well. I congratulate all my players of the Lumbajong team for displaying a good fight to win the match. I have full confidence that my players will do well in the final to claim the championship title.”

On the other hand the second semi final match was played between Singhason MAC and Rongkhang MAC, and as per information from the District Sports office, Rongkhang has won the match by 1-0 score to reach the final.
