TEZPUR, Sept 7: In an electrifying display of sporting prowess, the Zonal Level Chief Minister’s Tea Tribes and Adivasi Football Tournament for the Sonitpur Zone came to an exhilarating conclusion on Thursday at the Dhekiajuli TE Playground in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur. This monumental event showcased the remarkable talent and dedication of teams representing seven districts, namely Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Kamrup, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Darrang, and Kamrup (Metro).

The tournament, a grand celebration of unity and sportsmanship, unfolded over three action-packed days from September 5th to 7th. Organized across four stages, the competition began at the Local Assembly Constituency (LAC) level before progressing to the District Level (Inter LAC). The Sonitpur Zone (Zone 4) then hosted the Zonal Level (Inter District) matches, where the stakes were higher than ever. Ultimately, the champions from each district at this stage will advance to the prestigious State Level Tournament (Inter-Zonal).

The tournament’s final showdown witnessed an epic battle between Kamrup (Metro) and Lakhimpur. In a nail-biting match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, Kamrup (Metro) emerged victorious, showcasing their exceptional skills and teamwork. The closing ceremony marked the end of an unforgettable football spectacle.

The opening ceremony on September 5th, 2023, was graced by distinguished personalities, including Ashok Singhal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Department, who presided as the Chief Guest. MP Pallab Lochan Das and Ganesh Limboo, MLA Borchala, joined as Special Guests, adding to the event’s prestige. The presence of these esteemed individuals underscored the significance of this tournament in promoting sports and community engagement.

Pranjal Dehingia, the District Sports Officer of Sonitpur, Tezpur, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the success of the tournament. He emphasized the importance of such events in nurturing local talent and fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and unity among the region’s Tea Tribes and Adivasi communities.
