MORIGAON, Nov 13: State water resources and information and public relation minister Piyush Hazarika
on Monday said urged talented aspiring artistes to partake in the Assam Sanskritik Mahasangram to
showcase their hidden artistic skills
He said this while speaking at a special function of the Assam Sanskritik Mahasangram held at the Rass
Mandir of Baghjap gaon panchayat in Morigaon district. The Assam Sanskritik Mahasangram 2023-24
has organized by the state cultural affairs department with an aim to develop the artistic skills of
talented youths right from the grassroots level. Different competitions under this programme have
already begun in various gaon panchayats and wards under the Morigaon municipal area.
“Sanskritik Mahasangram is the result of the brainchild of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.
Programmes like Assam Khel Maharan and Sanskritik Mahasangram have been organized to provide a
platform to budding artistes and sportsmen in rural areas of the state. The skills of many artists get
nipped in the bud due to a lack of exposure. Therefore, our government considers it its responsibility to
provide the necessary opportunities to talented artists and athletes,” said Piyush Hazarika.
The minister also urged the public to extend their cooperation to the Sanskritik Mahasangram and
talented youths to participate in this programme.
Speaking at the function, district commissioner of Morigaon, Devashish Sharma said, “Our district is very
advanced in cultural aspects. Sanskritik Mahasangram will definitely open a new door of possibilities for
the artists of the district.”
The district commissioner also urged the contestants to come forward and participate in this large
cultural programme that has been arranged at a large scale. He also welcomed the minister with a
beautiful song. Earlier, he had also invited the people and students to perform the song of Bharat Ratna
Bhupen Hazarika titled “Manuhe Manuhar Babe” that speaks of harmony.
The Sanskritik Mahasangram will comprise of different genres of music like Jyoti Sangeet, Bishnu Rava
Geet, Bhupendra Sangeet, Rabindra Sangeet in the solo category. The group category will include Bihu
and folk dances. An applicant can participate in all the categories. The competition will be held in three
age categories namely 12-18 years, 19-24 years and 25-35 years.
While the first prize comprise of Rs 1 lakh, the second prize Rs 75,000 and the third prize Rs 50,000. The
prizes will be awarded to the winners in various categories. The competition will continue till November
29 in various gaon panchayats and municipal areas of Morigaon district. This will be followed by constituency level competitions followed by district level and state level competitions. Interested contestants can also register on the spot.
The event was attended by district nodal officer and additional district commissioner Sangeeta Barthakur, district cultural officer Rajiv Koiri, prominent social worker Apurba Deka and a number of dignitaries.
