Two-day Kisan Mela kickstarts in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 29: The eagerly awaited two-day Kisan Mela for 2023-24 commenced on Friday at the Gendrabil ME school playground in Kokrajhar. The event, organised by the Centrally Sponsored Scheme Agricultural Technology Management Agency (CSS-ATMA) and the Department of Agriculture, Kokrajhar, was inaugurated by MLA Lawrence Islary, representing Kokrajhar East LAC. The ceremony drew the participation of farmers from various regions and government officials.

The Kisan Mela showcased a vibrant display and sale of diverse farmers’ produce, processed food items, locally crafted millet products, wines, and more. Over the two days, the event also featured farmer training sessions on the safe use of pesticides in agriculture crop fields, marketing of agricultural products, and interactions with experts in pig rearing, fish farming, and silkworm rearing.

The presence of key figures such as MCLA Doneswar Goyary, chief scientist KVK, Kokrajhar Dr Sunil Kumar Paul, assistant manager ICRISET Harsh Vardhan Mane, and district agriculture officer Diganta Thapa added to the significance of the occasion.

MLA Islary expressed his satisfaction with the positive environment created by the mela, highlighting its role in introducing new dimensions to crop production and marketing of agricultural products across the region. He highlighted the educational aspect of the event, providing farmers with valuable knowledge and information about cultivating multiple crops and sustainable development strategies. Islary urged farmer communities to engage in extensive crop production for the benefit of citizens at large. The Kisan Mela is poised to be a valuable platform for farmers to learn, share experiences, and contribute to the growth of agriculture in the region.
