This marks a historical event as it is the first instance of an Assamese film being shown at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Pankaj Mahanta, the film’s producer, expressed his appreciation towards Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal post the successful screening and mentioned that the President thoroughly enjoyed the film.

‘Mini’ is a film centred on the struggles of tea garden workers in Assam. The trailer was launched in February at a grand event in Mumbai by renowned filmmaker Arunjit Borah, in alignment with the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Assam tea industry.

The film features Urmila Mahanta, Balaram Das, Dhananjay Debnath, Naba Mahanta and Pankaj Mahanta in key roles.

It tells a moving story of the tea plantation workers’ deprivation of basic human rights like education and land rights, shot in a scenic tea garden in Assam inside a 200-year old British Bungalow. The film is in Assamese and Sadri, the dialect spoken by the tea community in Assam.
