Jhanji HNS College kicks off diamond jubilee celebrations

SIVASAGAR, July 26: The year-long diamond jubilee celebrations of Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College began with the ceremonial hoisting of 60 flags in the inaugural function on Thursday. Distinguished guests, including former principals and teachers of the college, participated in the ceremony. Among them were Dr Anil Kumar Gogoi, Dr Anupoma Mahanta, Bhabani Kumar Baruah, Chandan Dutta, Abdul Azim, Bichitra Dutta, Kundil Kumar Mudoi, Tarun Phukan, Bireswar Neog, Mirabala Baruah, and Haren Baruah. Bhabani Kumar Baruah, the former vice-principal, performed the tarpan while several senior citizens planted saplings. Pradip Hazarika, MLA of Amguri LAC, attended the function and extended his best wishes for its successful completion.

The open session, presided over by Dr Anil Saikia, was inaugurated by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, principal of Gargaon College. Dr Mahanta urged students to acquire knowledge and skills to cope with challenges. Dr Manit Gogoi delivered the welcome speech. In his address, Dr Jyotiprasad Saikia, professor at Dibrugarh University, emphasised the importance of developing an analytical mind suitable for the 21st century. The souvenir, edited by the college principal Dr Manjit Gogoi and journalist Rajib Dutta, was released by Dr Mukul Hazarika, a former teacher at Jorhat Balya Bhawan. Prof (retd) Cheniram Bora, veterinary field assistant Nilakanta Bora, and meritorious student Borsha Bora were felicitated at the function. Prof Jibamoni Nath, Rajib Bora, and Mantumoni Bora anchored the event, and in the evening, students organised a colourful cultural program.

On the second day, despite scorching heat, a mile-long cultural procession was taken out, featuring a large number of students, teachers, cultural troupes, and different organisations.
