Gender Resource Centre inaugurated in Kokrajhar

New initiative aims to promote gender equality, empower women, and address key gender-related issues in BTR

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 25: A new Gender Resource Centre (GRC) was inaugurated on Monday in the presence of officials and stakeholder members at the Dotma Development Block under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) in Kokrajhar.

The initiative is part of the National Gender Campaign 3.0 (Nayi Chetna 3.0), aimed at fostering gender equality and empowering women in the region.

The centre, funded by ASRLM and the government of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), is designed to be a resource hub for addressing gender-related issues, conducting awareness campaigns, and providing training to empower women. It is expected to play a critical role in advancing gender equality and creating opportunities for women across Kokrajhar.

Masanda M Pertin, the district commissioner of Kokrajhar, inaugurated the centre in the presence of dignitaries from various government departments.

District social welfare officer Jitumoni Phukan, deputy LADC Madhab Prasad Upadhaya, gender specialist of the BTR Development Fellowship Programme Padmini Brahma, DPM Kokrajhar Bichitra Birjya Narzary, CDPO Dotma ICDS Project Sabita Brahma, representatives from BMMU Dotma, DMMU Kokrajhar, and women leaders from Community Level Federations (CLFs) also participated.

Pertin expressed her hope that the centre will facilitate bringing awareness, bridging gender-related issues, conducting awareness campaigns, and providing training to empower women. The centre is expected to play a critical role in advancing gender equality and creating opportunities for women across the entire Kokrajhar district.
